![]() Tortola is the largest and most populated of the BVI which lie in the Northeast Caribbean, 60 miles east of Puerto Rico. Fantastic weather, steady tradewinds, clean, clear, warm water and close proximity of the islands to each other have all contributed to make the BVI one of the best cruising grounds of the world. There are a few different ways to reach Tortola. One option is to fly into the Beef Island Airport on Tortola. Since our runway is too short to accommodate large planes, one must fly in via San Juan, Puerto Rico, a 40 minute commuter flight on American Eagle, Caribbean Star or Liat airlines. Another option is to fly into St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands) and take a ferry from downtown Charlotte Amalie to West End, Tortola. The ferry ride is 45 minutes, $38.00 round trip. The last ferry from St. Thomas leaves @ 4:45pm. If your flight doesn't land in enough time to make the ferry connection you must spend the night in St. Thomas. If you need assistance finding affordable fares call Caribbean Travel Network at 1-800-327-5540 and give them the Sistership code # 1002.
Whether you choose to fly directly to Tortola or take the ferry from St. Thomas
you will need to clear customs and immigration upon entering the BVI. You will
need either a passport, birth certificate or driver's license for entry. Lastly,
you would hop a taxi from the ferry terminal or the airport to meet the
boat.
