There are a few different ways to reach Tortola. One option is to fly into the Beef Island Airport on Tortola. Since our runway is too short to accommodate large planes, one must fly in via San Juan, Puerto Rico. All the major airlines service San Juan including both Jet Blue and Spirit. You must then hop a 40 minute commuter flight on either American Eagle, or Cape Air. Unfortunately, due to rising fuel costs American Eagle has drastically cut the number of daily flights from Puerto Rico into Tortola. Another option that you may find much more economical even if it is a bit more hassle is to fly into St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands) and take a ferry from downtown Charlotte Amalie to West End, Tortola. Airlines that fly into St. Thomas are American, Continental, Delta, Spirit and US Airways. Spirit frequently has some really good sales with cheap fares to both San Juan and St. Thomas from their hub cities. Currently the last ferry from St. Thomas leaves @ 4:45 pm, however the BVI is in the process of revising the ferry schedule to include more and later runs. http://www.bvivacations.com/Ferry.html
Whether you choose to fly directly to Tortola or take the ferry from St. Thomas you will need to clear customs and immigration upon entering the BVI. You will need a current passport for entry. Lastly, you would hop a taxi from the ferry terminal or the airport to meet the boat at Nanny Cay Marina.
I promise you, the hassle of getting here is WELL WORTH IT!!
